When you are going through a period of awakening to the possibility that you are in an abusive relationship it's disorienting. Its frightening. The prognosis is grim. Secular world says "leave him girl! He won't change." The church says "God hates divorce girl, you gotta stay and pray!" Enter Abigail- a gifted coach with a trained eye who understands what we are going through - us Christian wives navigating difficult marriages where power dynamics are at play. What if the option isn't stay or go (yet)? What if there is a third option? Become stronger. Create and enforce consequences and boundaries (safely). Believing the full truth of what God says about oppression, Lording over others, harshness, selfishness, malice etc? Y'all, Abigail GETS IT. You may be in biblical marital counseling, you may have met with your pastor, Christian marital/psychological counseling, or all alone for now. What you need is a space for the truth of your reality to land. Not to re-gaslight you into praying more. And--- to be fair- not to gaslight into believing changing isn't possible at all. It may or may not be, but Abigail is here to help you grow in your resolve, your strength and to help you trust what you're seeing and live in THAT reality and make decisions FROM that reality. It's been a blessing finding her and working with her. She has challenged my thinking in ways that have helped me to stop over teaching, over giving, rewarding destructive behaviors, over explaining or over functioning. She helped me to make distinctions between the Biblical platitudes in counseling and the more nuanced meanings that allow for me to stand up for what's loving and true in marriage. Love is sometimes tough. It's not coddling or endless forgiveness with no repentance. She's a great listener a great summarizer of what you're really saying and asking for and she gives exceptionally wise counsel. I'm sorry any of us have to go through this -as much as I love her, I'm sorry her coaching even has to exist. And yet in this fallen world -- there is hope in becoming stronger through all of this whether or not the marriage survives. Thank you Abigail! -Jill Burns (5 stars)
